THE WORKS OF THE ELEPHANT OF AFRICA - II
Following the success of the first infrastructure building program coined "The 12
Works of the Elephant of Africa" (1996), lethe Government has launched a second
program lancer un second programme, still to be financed by the private sector and managed
by the Bureau National d'Etudes Techniques et de Développement (BNETD). While targeting
mostly the interior regions, these works will cover 6 priority sectors: local economic
infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, quality of life, housing and education.
Following is the list of 21 projects, for which the BNETD has produced a film :
- > regional wholesale markets
- > regional slaughterhouses - livestock markets
- > communal markets in middle-size cities;
- > regional interurban bus stations;
- > industrial zones in regional capital cities;
- > regional craft centers;
- > public parking lots in Abidjan;
- > bridge over the Bandama River ( Béoumi -Kounahiri road);
- > Yamoussoukro - Bouaké highway;
- > Abidjan / Ghana expressway(phaze 2) ;
- > network of bascule bridges ;
- > mass transportation in regional capital cities
- > waste treatment unit in Abidjan;
- > collection and procession of solid waste in regional capital
cities;
- > water conveyance networks in regional capital cities ;
- > waste water collection in regional capital cities
- > connexion of electical networks between Côte d'Ivoire and Guinea;
- > connexion of electical networks between Côte d'Ivoire and Mali;
- > building of student housing;
- > building of 12 000 housing units in Abidjan;
- > creation of private universities .
